The differences between a cruise ship and ocean liner are large and noticeable. Ocean liners usually take passengers on trips from one point to another while cruises are round trip journeys with a greater amount of food and fuel required. Ocean liners are also built stronger and with larger capacities in general but lack many of the luxurious amenities that cruises have such as multiple pools or shops. Both ocean liners and cruises however are nearly identical in build and shape to each other. Several extremely famous ships are the Titanic her sister the Olympic and the Mauritania. As of this year 2011 the largest ship of this type in the world is the MS Allure of the Seas.
Modern-day sea-faring received much instruction from these carefully preserved 5000- year-old models. Specimens of these boats found a place in the British Museum the Louvre the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many other museums worldwide. Modern-day ship models came into existence before or during the construction of many eighteenth- and nineteenth-century warships. These were known as Admiralty or Shipyard models. Many of these models did not show the timbering they would have in the actual vessel but the models illustrated the form of the hull and details of the deck furnishings masts spars and general frame. The models provided the non-sea-faring financiers with a birds-eye view of the vessel that was to come into being.

Ships of olden times were almost always longer than they were taller. This design choice was augmented by the fact many people of ancient times who built ships simply did not have the technology to make them tall. Instead of height ship builders when for width and length. Daunting heights were soon explored as European ship builders discovered the technology that allowed them to build the ships taller. Tall masts were a trademark of ship building of this time. Like a tiered cake builders could build the stern of the ships higher. Today wood tall ship models copy this same antiquated design. The tiered layer of the ship was very popular among builders. Due to the streamlined shape the ship could both carry more weight and move faster through the water. The sleeping quarters for the officers and the helm were both place in this terraced portion of the ship.
