Since the 15th century ships bells have played both a practical and symbolic role in the life of naval vessels and their crews. All good ship models must have a bell on board. All really good ship models should also have an ornate belfry - depending on the era of the ship model. There is documentary evidence that at least one English royal vessel the Rodcogge de la Tour 1414 had a brass bell \"to mark the watches of the sailors\". Other mentions of the shipboard bell were on the British ship Grace Dieu about 1485. Some ten years later an inventory of the English ship Regent reveals that this ship carried two watch bells. Originally the bell was fixed to a moveable beam which was activated by a lever or a wheel to which was attached a bell rope that dropped to the main-deck.
Including these particular boats many other ships are recreated as models for their rich history and elegance. The very first cruise ship to be built was completed in the year 1900. The ships of this period that boomed in popularity were the ones that crossed the Atlantic and Pacific. Two of the most famous wrecks are that of the Titanic and the Lusitania which had very high casualties and became some of the most famous ships in history. In modern times the voyage of sailing ships for transportation of passengers and cargo is not desirable as this would take months. Expeditions explorations and scientific voyages or training jaunts are undertaken on sailing ships even at present. During the Great Age of Sail Salem Massachusetts was one of Americas busiest seaports and maritime centers.
The fair winds blow strong across the steely blue waters of the open ocean. With such a favorable wind the water makes for smooth sailing. On the ocean a large gray ship is trawling ever closer. The ship itself moves quite quickly and with great velocity. The impressive bulk of the ship is what people first notice. The ship has a large central tower and a wide deck. The vessels tallest spire is extreme in both height and thinness. These ships in particular are built to remain in use on the ocean for great lengths of time. Having little to show in the way of damage on this ship the wear of constant sea journeys is extreme and it takes its toll on most other vessels.
